Port Vila reports accommodations capacity shortages

PORT VILA, Vanuatu (Vanuatu Daily Post, Dec. 29, 2012) – In Vanuatu, practically all major hotel rooms in Port Vila are booked out from December through to mid-January 2013.

The Holiday Inn with 213 rooms is fully booked out from December through to mid-January 2013.

The Le Lagon Warwick hotel with 140 rooms is also fully booked out from December through to around mid-January 2013 while The Grand and Casino in the heart of Port Vila with 74 rooms has no vacant rooms and fully booked out through to mid-January 2013 also.

The Iririki Island Resort staff told Daily Post that their 133 rooms capacity are all booked out and full from December through to around January 15, 2013. Some guests had to be referred to other hotels because of the shortage of hotel capacity.

Chantilly’s on the Bay with 20 rooms is also fully booked with no vacant room until mid-January 2013 and so is the same with Tamanu on the beach according to a hotel source.

Daily Post could not reach every hotel and resort in and around Port Vila but understands the hotel rooms situation is the same with no availability of room spaces from December through to January 2013.

One hotel staff said this is normal during this period but particularly this Season is one of the busiest for the hotels in and around Port Vila with visitors arriving by air and staying for several days’ holiday.
