KOROR, Palau (Island Times, July 15, 2013) – Two male individuals were rushed to the Belau National Hospital after suffering major injuries due to hacking in separate areas over the weekend.

Information gathered by Island Times stated that the first victim was rushed to the hospital around 3:30 a.m. Friday after he was attacked by an unknown assailant with a sharp object and hacked in the face in Ngerbeched.

After medical examination and a major operation, the victim was released Saturday. He suffered a cut from the lower part of his right eye and the cut extended towards his nose and upper lip. It was noted that the victim was released since the cut did not damage any major part of his face.

On Sunday, another victim was rushed to the hospital around 4 a.m. after he was hacked by an unknown assailant by Bem Ermi in Ngerbeched. The victim suffered major injuries to his nape, head, ears, right hand and left arm.

The victim underwent an operation but is still at the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) under observation.

It is believed that the previous and recent hacking incidents have the same perpetrator. The suspect is believed to have used a very sharp object such as a machete or a butcher knife as the cuts were very clean.

Island Times tried to get more information about the incident from the Patrol Division, but the officer assigned to give information to the media was not yet in the office as of press time.
