Ma‘asina Forum wants explanation why some weren’t shortlisted

HONIARA, Solomon Islands (Solomon Star, Feb 25, 2014) - Malaita Ma’asina Forum (MMF) has called on the government to explain why two other candidates for the Police’s top job have been omitted from the shortlisted candidates.

It was earlier reported that two candidates from Britain and New Zealand have been omitted giving way to only five candidates who were shortlisted for the top post.

MMF president Charles Dausabea said the omission of the two candidates is a clear indication of how the government has manipulated the system to put in its preferred person.

"How could a free and fair appointment be made when the government already has its sights on the person? It shows how the government continue to interfere with the process to put their preferred person," Dausabea said.

He stressed that the omission of the British and New Zealander clearly shows the government’s preference for those who they can pull them by their nose.

Adding that if a British is chosen, he will give the government and its associates a really hard time.

"If a Briton takes the post he will be a real threat to the government and Australia since he will get tough and uphold the laws of this country. But an Australian or local taking the post will be a remote control of the government and Canberra," Dausabea said.

He added that MMF will be monitoring the appointment very closely because the country deserves a good leader to lead the force out of its dying state.
