Latasi removed for not supporting government

WELLINGTON, New Zealand (Radio New Zealand International, March 3, 2014) – The speaker of Tuvalu's parliament, Sir Kamuta Latasi, is reported to have been ousted from his position.

On the first day of the first parliamentary session for the year, Prime Minister Enele Sopoaga moved a motion to remove the speaker for not being with the government.

The motion was reportedly supported by two thirds of the members of parliament.

Sir Kamuta Latasi acknowledged the support and cooperation of the country and fellow members of Parliament during his seven years as Speaker.
