APIA, Samoa (Talamua, June 25, 2014) – Samoa will host this year’s inter-island talk between American Samoa and the Samoan Government on Friday 27 June 2014.

The talk will focus on trading opportunities, economic integration and immigration.

Officials assisting the talks said that issues from the last inter-island talk early this year such as the exportation of taro from Samoa and the shortage of teachers in American Samoa will also be on the agenda.

One of the issues Samoa’s Prime Minister Tuilaepa Lupesoliai Dr. Sailele Malielegaoi rasied in the last meeting was the building of an inter-island wharf at Leone American Samoa which will be closer to the wharf at Satitoa and will make sea travel easier between the two Samoas.

In the last talks, Tuilaepa echoed the importance of investing in the wharf which he considered a bonus for both countries in terms of tourism and business development.

A wharf at Leone will reduce the long route from Pago Pago to Apia as trips from Leone would dock at Aleipata instead of going round to Apia.

Some of the issues agreed upon already showed results such as the exchange of lands between the two countries for their respective Embassy offices.

Samoa has allocated land at Vailima for American Samoa.
