Killing of woman during high speed chase subject of controversy

PORT MORESBY, Papua New Guinea (The National, Jan. 7, 2015) – Police Commissioner Geoffrey Vaki has assigned a team of detectives from Port Moresby to investigate the killing of a woman in her car in Lae.

He said the team would be sent immediately to investigate the shooting to death of Moana Pisimi, plus the killing of a businessman in Lae.

Vaki said this was because of accusations levelled against police in the Pisimi shooting incident.

Lae Metropolitan Superintendent Iven Lakatani said Pisimi died following a high-speed car-chase around 3.30am last Thursday as she was driving home from a nightclub where she had been partyingwith husband Thomas, a businessman.

Lakatani said she was chased by police and a private security firm officers towards Back Road in Lae.

Her husband found her dead in the car with a bullet wound at the back of her head. Vaki said a senior detective from Port Moresby would lead the investigation.

He said the team would also investigate the murder of a Singaporean businessman who was found dead inside his home at Eriku suburb. He said police would use all available resources to hunt down those involved and bring them to justice.
