PAGO PAGO, American Samoa (The Samoa News, April 13, 2015) – While separated by only a 35-minute flight, it is very rare that the business community from independent Samoa and Tutuila get together to brainstorm, check out each other’s goods and services, and talk about ways to improve trade between the two islands and beyond.

That is why the 2Samoas Trade Fair that kicks off today is a great opportunity to get the lines of communication going, and to make connections and partnerships that could benefit all parties involved through the creation of stronger economic, social, political and cultural relations between the two Samoas.

The event will be held at the Suigaula ole Atuvasa Beach Park in Utulei from April 13-17 and is co-hosted by the governments of Samoa and American Samoa, in partnership with the Samoa Small Business Enterprise Centre, the Samoa Chamber of Commerce, and the American Samoa Chamber of Commerce.

Companies from Samoa who will be present during the Trade Fair include those in the fresh produce, arts and crafts, jewelry, garments and textiles, and processed food and beverage industries.

According to the American Samoa Chamber of Commerce, the objectives of the Trade Fair are to:

"The Trade Fair will provide a great platform for all entrepreneurs to network and create business partnerships. This will strengthen the business opportunities between the 2Samoas which would feed into the development of an Economic Agreement between the two countries."

BlueSky Communications, last week, donated $10,000 and telecommunication services to help ensure the success of the 2Samoas Trade Fair, which the company describes as an important part of the ongoing efforts of the private sectors and governments in American Samoa and Samoa to promote trade and economic cooperation between the two islands.

More than 50 vendors from both Samoas are expected to showcase their goods and services during the Trade Fair, all of which will culminate with a Fashion Show on Friday night, April 17 at the Governor H. Rex Lee Auditorium in Utulei.

Everyone is invited to attend.

The Trade Fair coincides with the territory’s celebration of its 115th Flag Day, during which Samoa will play a big role, with Don Bosco Catholic School taking part in the fautasi race, as well as performing a siva and pese during the entertainment segment of the program.

Sporting teams for boxing, volleyball and rugby are also here to go head to head with local clubs. Tell your friends and families off island that they can link to KVZK-TV’s live streaming of Flag Day activities right here. Just click on the KVZK logo in the left column.
