Two Patients Die From Dengue Fever In Am. Samoa

Department of Health stresses avoiding infectious virus

PAGO PAGO, American Samoa (The Samoa News, June 2, 2015) – LBJ Medical Center has four confirmed cases of dengue fever and patients in two of these cases have died. LBJ, Infection Prevention Officer Charmaine Mageo told Samoa News a suspected but unconfirmed case has also resulted in the death of a teenager over the weekend.

The first two cases were admitted into the Intensive Care Unit and within several days they both passed away. Tests sent off island came back positive as dengue, however more tests are being conducted to determine what type of dengue the territory is experiencing.

Mageo along with the Department of Health’s Epidemiologist Scott Anesi stated they are re-emphasizing the use of the 3 Ds to avoid the dengue virus:
