South Korea is one of Palau’s top 5 tourist markets

KOROR, Palau (Island Times, June 29, 2015) – Recognizing South Korea as one of Palau’s top five tourist markets, Palau Visitors Authority (PVA) Marketing & Research Representative II Susan Kloulechad exhibited on behalf of PVA at the 30th Korean World Travel Fair (KOTFA), which took place from June 11th-14th in COEX, Seoul. While PVA attended to continue to raise awareness of Palau as a leisure travel destination for South Koreans, PVA also introduced the new brand, Pristine Paradise. Palau to consumers and trade professionals.

To celebrate KOTFA’s 30th anniversary, KOTFA made memorandum of understanding agreements with international tourism organizations such as UNWTO (United Nations World Tourism Organization), PATA (Pacific Asia Travel Association), and JATA (Japan Association of Travel Agents). KOTFA Organizers expect that through these agreements, KOTFA can improve international prestige as a Korean representative travel fair.

By sharing the booth with IMPAC Tours, PVA benefited by having the cooperation of two of the IMPAC Korea Branch staff to distribute brochures in the Korean language. In addition, the KOTFA included a B2B Outbound Travel Mart to make the best use of exchanging the latest information and building cooperative network in the tourism field, and seek out new agencies to feature Palau in their programs. PVA will continue to follow up with the new contacts made during this side event.

According to the KOTFA Organizing Committee Report, when compared to 2014, nearly half the number of visitors attended the four day event, following the MERS (Middle East Respiratory Syndrome) outbreak in Seoul which occurred just prior to the start of the KOTFA. The show organizers in fact took precautions involving screening and education to prevent this disease from spreading to the venue, which featured 52 domestic and international destinations. Of the 66,516 visitors, 59,346 were domestic and 7,170 were foreigners. In past years that PVA has attended the KOTFA shows, attendance was at the maximum capacity.
