APIA, Samoa (Talamua, June 30, 2015) – The Speaker of Samoa’s Parliament, La’aulialemalietoa Leuatea Polataivao offered parliaments blessings and well wishes for the Manu Samoa rugby team as they are a week away from the historic match against the All Blacks at the Apia Park, 8 July 2015.

Most MPs were dressed in blue in support of the Manu Samoa colours and Parliament set aside its normal morning session to receive the team and management and the Speaker offered the whole country’s well wishes on behalf of parliament.

"The world is watching. Remember the prayers of your people, families and country," the Speaker encouraged the team.

"Remember also that days come and go, a stone may rot but not the word, your undertakings and feats will speak of your efforts for generations to come and the benefits will be reaped by yourselves," said the Speaker.

[PIR editor’s note: Talamua reported that the Samoa Rugby Union Chairman and Prime Minister Tuilaepa Lupesoliai Sailele Malielegaoi told the team ‘"Forgive us and the people for being enthusiastic but the message I convey to you, is to do your utmost. Play strong. Play smart and play to win." ... It was a direct message to the team this afternoon before the Team Manager Namulauulu Sami Leota read out the 27 names of the Manu Samoa team that would take on the New Zealand mighty All Blacks next Wednesday.’]

Manu Samoa Team Manager Namulauulu Sami Leota responded and thanked the Speaker and Parliament for the warm welcome and words of encouragement.

"It is times like these that we need your parental guidance and support," said Namulauulu. "We thank you and Samoa for your prayers and encouragement."

He assured parliament and the country that they will do their best for Samoa and that today’s meeting will be an important reminder and inspiration the players will delve into for extra strength during tough times of the upcoming encounter.

The parliamentarians then shared morning tea with the players and management in chambers.

At 1.00 pm today, the Samoa Rugby Union Chairman and Prime Minister Tuilaepa Sailele Maliegaoi announced the Manu Samoa squad at a function at the Orator Hotel.

A week to the historic clash at Apia Park, the country is throwing its support behind the team and villages lining the main road from the Faleolo International Airport to the capital Apia, are already mounting strings of flags, banners and messages of welcome and support to both the Manu Samoa and the All Blacks.

The decorations as seen during the hosting of the SIDS Conference last September are now seen around the country as Samoa prepares to host the world champions and overseas visitors already congregating on the island ahead of next Wednesday’s historic clash.
