WELLINGTON, New Zealand (Radio New Zealand International, August 1, 2015) – A senator in American Samoa, Saole Mila, has died.

Saole died in the US city of Seattle on Thursday after an illness that also prevented him from attending the Fono opening last month.

He was a first-term Senator, who until last year was an associate judge of the High Court.

As a senator, he chaired the Senate Economic Development Committee and was a passionate advocate for the needs of his district, which included his home island of Aunuu.
