Diversify air routes into Micronesia, direct Chinese flights

SAIPAN, CNMI (Marianas Variety, January 4, 2016) – As part of its embassy’s mandate to promote investment in the FSM, Ambassador Carlson D. Apis had a meeting on Tuesday last week with some potential Chinese investors including Wu Yuehu and his partner Chen Jeff.

Wu is a senior consultant of China Fishing Association and chief executive officer of Magic Square Tourism Design Institute while Chen is the vice president of the Peng Yu Group.

Both individuals and their companies are specialized in marketing and tourism promotion, in attracting investors, and designing resorts and hotels. Having visited the FSM in the past, Wu has expressed his company’s keen interest to invest in the tourism sector.

Apis welcomed the effort of the two businessmen, and assured them of his support to help facilitate their interest with each of the FSM states, emphasizing that the states have jurisdictional responsibility over hotels and tourism operations in the FSM.

He also encouraged them to familiarize themselves with the foreign investment laws in the FSM to ensure smooth operations.

He mentioned the efforts of the FSM government to diversify air transportation routes into Micronesia and encouraged both businessmen to also work with the Chinese airline operators to have direct routes into the FSM.

The meeting ended on a positive note, with both sides assuring each other of the need to further cooperate on matters of interest to both the FSM and the Chinese companies.
