Former Vice President to challenge incumbent Remengesau

KOROR, Palau (Marianas Variety, Jan. 19, 2016) – Sen. Sandra Pierantozzi is expected to run for the presidency in November this year.

Tia Belau reports an official announcement is expected soon.

Her decision comes less than three weeks after she was sworn in to fill the seat left vacant by the late Sen. Kathy Kesolei.

President Tommy E. Remengesau Jr. is seeking re-election and Sen. Surangel Whipps Jr. is also running for the top office.

Pierantozzi served as vice president of Palau from 2001 to 2005. She is also a former minister of finance, health and state.
