Confusion over results to be set straight today

WELLINGTON, New Zealand (Radio New Zealand International, Feb. 1, 2016) – Official results in Vanuatu's general election will be released at 10am local time today.

Winners of the 52 seats will be announced 10 days after a snap election in the country, following the jailing of 15 government MPs late last year.

There has been confusion around results, with The Graon Mo Jastis Pati leader Ralph Regenvanu blaming media for spreading the confusion.

There was an announcement that Dr Richard Leona had won the Pentecost Island seat from former Prime Minister Ham Lini, before a final ballot box arrived from an isolated island.

Mr Lini was later declared the winner.

Meanwhile, MPs are formalising proposed government structures pending the official results.
