Anthony Veke elected by Provincial assembly

HONIARA, Solomon Islands (Solomon Islands Broadcasting Corporation, March 29, 2016) – Guadalcanal Province [in the Solomon Islands] has a new Premier.

He is Premier Elect Anthony Veke.

Provincial Speaker Abel Arabola announced the election result after Members of the Provincial assembly voted for a new premier this morning.

"Hon. Anthony Veke has polled 12 votes and Hon. Rolland Seleso has polled nine votes. After his election today, I consulted him and he told that his executive should be appointed before 4pm this afternoon."

Mr. Arabola says the swearing in for the premier elect is planned for tomorrow.

The Change in leadership is necessary after former Premier Bartholomew Vavanga was ousted in a vote of No confidence last week.
