2,381 people tops Samoans, Chinese, Indians

NUKU‘ALOFA, Tonga (Matangi Tonga, April 19, 2016) – In January this year, there were 2,381 Tongan overstayers living in New Zealand according to recently published estimates from the New Zealand Government’s Immigration Department.

Tongan overstayers made up the largest number of overstayers in New Zealand closely followed by Samoans (2,124 overstayers), the Chinese with 1,226 overstayers, and Indians with 763 overstayers.

However, New Zealand Immigration estimated a large fall in the number of Tongan overstayers over the last 15 years. According to estimates, there were 5,073 Tongan overstayers living in New Zealand in the year 2000.

Apart from the estimated numbers, New Zealand Immigration also made a stern warning in its published report. It stated, "Immigration New Zealand records all arrivals and departures from New Zealand and we are aware when someone has not departed before their visa has expired,

"People who are overstayers, regardless of nationality, must appreciate that if there are no special circumstances that call for the grant of a visa they are expected to leave New Zealand, or face deportation. If a person is deported they face a ban of up to five years from applying to come to New Zealand again."

New Zealand currently accepts an annual quota that grants residency for up to 250 Tongan nationals. The quota for Samoan nationals however, is significantly higher with the Samoan Quota Scheme granting residency for up to 1,100 Samoan nationals.

this is democracy menafest, samoans are top of the leader board no matter what...2000

tongans living newzealand should be told to go back to their country as most of them doing crimes in dairy shop robberies and other offences in all surburbs of Auckland it is very sad to see this overstayers are the major threat to the shop keepers in newzealand ....

I think tongans nationalities are doing more harm to the community by shop break in and other illegal activities in newzealand which I think is very danger to the people of newzealand ....

it would be very costly for the government of newzealand to keep the tongans in this country this is because they suffer from alots of sickness and it will be very .very costly to this country ......and thing is the crime rate is increasing day by day due to illegals living in here ......

many tongans and samonans who has over stayed their visas are a very major threat to the liquor shops in Auckland there has been four incidents in Auckland as I have seen on tv3 this week .the police cant trace them due to face is covered in such way it is un rengongnisedable ...the islanders know in the community who it is but it is their culture that is protecting them from getting arrested ....the government should change the law in this country any overstayers doing the crime in this country should go home where they come from ...

tongans and samoans are causing the major problems like bad attitude ,stealing peoples property and un necessary fights in schools and towns in all areas around Auckland ..it is distressing to see this wild and stupid actions by this culture Is putting the image pity low when the overseas tourist come across it is very terrible to see this culture putting the wild and crazy behaviour in the society .....

overstayers like samonans and tongans do not contribure much to the country ...they should return back to their home land asap....

ITHINK SAMONANS AND TONGANS ARE VERY EXPENSIVE PEOPLE WHEN IT COMES TO MEDICAL BILLS IN NEWZEALAND ....IT IS VERY EXPENSIVE TO KEEP THEM IN THE COUNTRY BECAUSE THEY OFTEN GET SICK OF DIFFERENT KIND OF DIEASES ......AND MANY OTHER INFECTIONS .....THEY ARE VERY COSTLY TOTHE SOCIETY INDEED ....SENT THEM HOME .....

The quota scheme for samonans and tongans should be cancelled out completely to give the best tradesman to come to this country. most of the time samonans and tongans do a lot of crimes and break in in the housea and other private property around Auckland and many other surburns but they can not be caught.this is because there own people wont tell other people what is going on .this is in there culture not to mention to anyone who ever it is ....their culture is made like that not to dope people in ......

this nations of samonans and tongans are given favour in immigration in take . I HAVE OBSERVED THAT THIS PEOPLE ARE GENUINE PEOPLE TO BE GIVEN TO STAY IN THIS COUNTRY WHATS SO EVER .THEY SUFFER FROM ALOT OF DIEASES AND SICKNESS AND IT IS A MAJOR PROPLEM IN THIS COUNTRY.FOR THE CAREER WISE THEY ARE NOT SMART AND THIS LEADS TO UNEMPLOYMENT AND CRIMINAL ACTIVITIES IN AND AROUND ALL OVER NEWZEALAND ...

it is unfair to the other races in newzealand that tongans and samonans are favoured more than other nationality ... the students whos parents are overstayers are allowed to send their kids to school.. as for other races they are not allowed to send their kids to school if they are illegally in newzealand ...I think it is just unfair and this will impact on this country .... law should be the same to everyone /anyone .....
