Solomon Islands To Host 2016, 2017 PIDF Meetings

SUVA, Fiji (Fijilive, May 9, 2016) – The Pacific Islands Development Forum (PIDF) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Solomon Islands Government for all its leadership meetings in 2016 and 2017 to be hosted in Honiara.

Secretary General of the PIDF, François Martel together and the High Commissioner of the Solomon Islands in Fiji, His Excellency Patteson Oti formalized the deal in Suva today.

Altogether six high level meetings are scheduled to be hosted in Solomon Islands.

Under the Charter of the PIDF, its ten member countries take turn to host the meetings.

Fiji has been hosting all PIDF meetings to date.

The Solomon Islands will start its hosting duty beginning with the Leaders’ Summit in Honiara from 4-5 July.

Heads of Government of all its 10 member countries and heads of its two member regional organisations are expected to attend.

The meetings are expected to coincide with national celebrations in the Solomon’s commemorating its independence.
