Opportunities exist for cyclone impacted workers

By Reginald Chandar

SUVA, Fiji (Fijilive, May 17, 2016) – Minister for Employment, Productivity and Industrial Relations, Semi Koroilavesau is currently touring the Lau Group to promote overseas seasonal employment opportunities to those affected by Tropical Cyclone Winston.

Minister Koroilavesau said the devastation of TC Winston reinforces Government’s recruitment focus of overseas seasonal workers from isolated rural and maritime communities.

“Government’s policy intent for recruiting unemployed persons from isolated rural and maritime communities is to alleviate poverty.

The trickle-down effect of overseas seasonal work will add value to rural development through economic activity and enhance agricultural innovation,” he said.

He has called on all interested villagers in the Lau Group to utilise this opportunity and attend the Trade Show organized by Unique Events Fiji and register their interest with the Ministry.

The 2016 Lau Islands Trade Show started yesterday in Matuku and moved to Totoya today.

The Show moves to Moala tomorrow, Lakeba on Thursday and Cicia on Friday.

It ends on Saturday in Vanuabalavu.
