KOROR, Palau (Island Times, May 20, 2016) – Palau Pacific Resort becomes the first resort in Palau to acquire a water desalination plant to help supplement its water supply.

Mr. Eric Matul, PPR Assistant Plant and Properties Operations Manager, reports that the containerized plant can produce 1,000 gallons per hour of fresh water from the salt water.

Water intake pipe is from sea down from Splash Dive Shop.  “It further down at the deeper part of the ocean so when it is low tide, the intake is not affected,” stated Mr. Matul.

The sea water is pumped from the ocean to a tank, to a sand filter tank before it goes to the brine filter. “The filtered water tastes just like bottled water from stores,” he added.

The cost of the unit itself runs around $150,000, not including shipping and other costs, according to Mr. Eric Matul.
