Tonga Celebrates 90th Birthday Of Queen Mother

Halaevalu Mata’aho honored with 6-days of events

NUKU‘ALOFA, Tonga (Matangi Tonga, May 25, 2016) – Six-days of celebrations to mark the 90th birthday of the Queen Mother Halaevalu Mata’aho will start tomorrow, Wednesday, May 25, in Nuku'alofa.

The Queen Mother was born on May 29, 1926, the daughter of Heuifanga Veikune and Noble 'Ahome'e Manuopangai.

On her birthday on Sunday, 29 May she will attend a church service at the Centennial Church with HM King Tupou VI and Queen Nanasipau'u.

A Royal Luncheon will follow hosted by her daughter HRH Princess Pilolevu Tuita and grandchildren at the Pangai Lahi grounds, attended by members of the Royal Family and hundreds of guests.

The first three-days of the celebration from May 25-27 will be hosted by the Blake Family as part of a family reunion for the Queen Mother. Luncheons are planned from May 25-26 with a Ball on Friday 27 May under a theme ‘1837 the era of Alexander Blake', to be held at the Queen Salote Memorial Hall.

On Saturday, 28 May a feast will be hosted by the Queen Mother’s extended family at the Akoteu grounds next to the Centennial Church.

The celebration ends on Monday, 30 May with a beach party to raise money for the Queen Mother’s charities hosted by a grandaughter Hon Frederica Tuita-Filipe.

The Queen Mother Halaevalu Mata'aho is the mother of the late King George Tupou V and his successor, King Tupou VI.
