Committee recommends suspension for Roko Tupou Draunidalo; apology to Reddy

SUVA, Fiji (Fiji Times, June 3, 2016) – The Parliamentary Privileges Committee has recommended that National Federation Party parliamentarian Roko Tupou Draunidalo be suspended for the remainder of the term of Parliament.

The committee has recommended that the suspension should come into effect immediately and Roko Tupou should also apologise to the Education Minister, Dr Mahendra Reddy for calling him an idiot in Parliament on Wednesday.

It has recommended that Roko Tupou should also apologise to the people of Fiji.

The committee has recommended that Roko Tupou  not be allowed into the precincts of Parliament and the Opposition office there.

The Parliamentary Privileges Committee also recommended this morning that Roko Tupou should leave the precincts of Parliament immediately after the suspension today.

The committee, chaired by Luveni Nadalo, unaimously found that Roko Tupou contravened Standing Order 62 (4) (a) and (d).

It recommendations will be tabled in Parliament, which will then make a decision.
