Pacific Islands Private Sector Organisation Gets New Chairman

President of the Fiji Commerce and Employers Federation takes over

By Felix Chaudhary

SUVA, Fiji (Fiji Times, July 20, 2016) – Howard Politini is the Pacific Islands Private Sector Organisation's chairman.

He was appointed to the position during PIPSO's annual general meeting in Nadi last week.

Mr Politini, who is also the president of the Fiji Commerce and Employers Federation, takes over the role from Klaus Stunzer from the Samoa Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

Mr Politini said while he was delighted with the opportunity to head PIPSO, he was also aware of the many challenges that lay ahead.

"PIPSO is at a milestone with the fast-changing environment, changing economies and environmental issues in the Pacific," he said.

"Our strategic plan — which is what we have been discussing over the past few days — has set a roadmap for us and also for our nearly scripted vision.

"It's time to re-gather, review and reorganise, and with a new team on the board, I am looking forward to the challenges."

Mr Politini said the critical role the private played in Pacific Island communities was evident in the development that had happened over the years.

He said, however, the challenge was to ensure momentum was developed to take the sector forward.

"We, as the private sector, need to keep ahead of what is going on in terms of business.

"We need to ensure our products and services are relevant and meet the needs of our people."

The remaining members of the board are vice-chair Aloma Johansson (Tonga), Benson Nablu (PNG), Stephen Lyon (Cook Islands), Sheree Stehlin (Samoa) and Carolyn Ngiraidis (Palau).
