Late Fiji Vice President To Be Given State Funeral, PM Confirms

Ratu Joni Madraiwiwi will be laid to rest on the island of Bau

SUVA, Fiji (Fiji Times, Oct. 4, 2016) – Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama has confirmed in a Government statement that the late former vice-president and Bau chief Ratu Joni Madraiwiwi will be accorded State Honours for his funeral on the island of Bau.

"In honouring Ratu Joni, we must strive to extend and protect those values of respect, justice,  fairness and equality that he valued," Mr Bainimarama said.

"I extend my deepest sympathies to Ratu Joni's wife, Adi Lusiana, to all of his loved ones and to the Vanua and I offer my gratitude, on behalf of the Fijian people and Government  for the dedication and service Ratu Joni gave to our nation," Mr Bainimarama said.

"Ratu Joni will be accorded State Honours for his funeral on the island of Bau. Government will also present its  i-reguregu on Thursday morning," the Prime Minister stated.

Ratu Joni was the eldest son of the late Doctor Ratu Jione Atonio Rabici Doviverata, who preceded him as Roko Tui Bau.

His mother Adi Losalini Raravuya Uluiviti was from the chiefly family in Nairai, Lomaiviti.

The Turaga Roko Tui Bau will be laid to rest in the sautabu on the island of Bau.
