Angry At Superintendent Termination, Guam Governor Calls For Resignations From Board Of Education

Calvo 'greatly regrets' his appointment of members who voted to fire Fernandez

HAGÅTÑA, Guam (Pacific Daily News, Oct. 11, 2016) – Gov. Eddie Calvo asked three members of the Board of Education to resign following the termination of Superintendent Jon Fernandez's contract.

Kenneth Chargualaf, Ryan Torres and Charlene Concepcion were all appointed by the governor, and all voted to fire Fernandez.

"I now greatly regret your appointments," the governor wrote in an Oct. 7 letter to the three.

The three board members, along with three elected members, ended the contract with Fernandez in a late-night meeting last week. There was no public discussion of the vote, however Fernandez had been accused of misconduct and sexual harassment.

"Transparency is the hallmark of our administration," Calvo wrote. "We don't always get it right, but we encourage and foster openness in public service."
