World's 'Ritziest' Cruise Ship Visits Cook Islands

500 guests on board MS Europa 2 enjoy day in Rarotonga

RAROTONGA, Cook Islands (Cook Islands News, Dec. 8, 2016) – The cruise liner regarded as the best in the world visited Rarotonga yesterday with 500 guests on board.

The 226-metre Europa 2, of the German Harpag-Lloyd line, has been described as “the ritziest ship in the industry”.

Built in St Nazaire, France, the 43,000 tonne Europa 2 was launched in 2012 to great acclaim. She has the greatest space per passenger of any cruise ship, seven gourmet restaurants that offer a choice from 600 wines, a gym, a 15-metre pool and a spa.

Europa 2 also carries more than 200 different varieties of gin; Hapag-Lloyd says that the vessel's gin collection, which is constantly evolving, is the largest in the cruise industry.

There are 251 cabins on the Europa 2 ranging in size from 35 sq m to 114 sq m.

Each has its own verandah and includes walk-in robes, baths and showers. Higher category suites even have butler service. The cruise liner has been awarded the coveted distinction of 5-stars-plus by the Berlitz Cruise Guide 2017.

Hardly surprising when on board the vessel is the largest art collection at sea. The 890 pieces are mainly contemporary works and include art from David Hockney, Olafur Eliasson, Damien Hirst, Adam Fuss and Hans Hartung.
