HONIARA, Solomon Islands (Solomon Star, Feb. 1, 2017) – Members of the Solomon Islands Bar Association (SIBA) are currently going through the 2nd 2014 Draft Federal Constitution of Solomon Islands at the Iron Bottom Sound (IBS).

This extra-ordinary meeting for SIBA members started yesterday and will end on Friday.

Two members of the Constitutional Reform Unit (CRU) will be present at this weeklong meeting to provide technical explanations on the 2nd 2014 Draft.

They are CRU consultant lawyer Reginald Teutao and CRU chairlady Jenny Tuhaika.

SIBA president Silverio Lepe said in June last year SIBA members spent two weeks consultation on the draft.

Mr Lepe said the decision from SIBA members then was for them to compile their written submissions, endorsed it after another extra ordinary meeting before submitting the final draft to CRU.

However, he said that did not happen.

Therefore, he said SIBA’s new executive had to liaise with CRU again who agreed to fund another five days to bring lawyers together to look at the draft and finalise it.

“After finalising it we will hand it over to the CRU hopefully by next week if the final one is ready to be submitted,” Mr Lepe said.
