NUKU‘ALOFA, Tonga (Matangi Tonga, Feb. 15, 2017) – A 35-member business delegation from New Zealand arrived in Tonga today on a four-day visit to explore opportunities for business investment and strengthen business links with Tonga.

New Zealand’s Ambassador for Pacific Economic Development Matua Shane [Jones] joins the delegation with representatives from various sectors, including energy, infrastructure, health, education and tourism.

New Zealand investors are looking forward to seeing first hand the unique business opportunities that Tonga has to offer. The business mission will strengthen economic and person to person links between New Zealand and Tonga, said NZ High Commissioner HE Sarah Walsh.

Kolotia Fotu, Acting CEO for the Ministry of Commerce, said this was a great opportunity for the Tongan government and local business community to interact and engage in investment dialogues and possible joint ventures between New Zealand and Tongan businesses.

The Deputy Prime Minister Hon Siaosi Sovaleni will meet with the group and they will attend presentations by senior government officials, meet leaders in business at networking events, have one to one meetings and site visits.

A business exhibition will be held on Saturday, February 18 from 9:00am to 12:00pm where New Zealand and Tongan businesses showcase their products and services for export.

The exhibition open to the public will be held at the Tanoa International Dateline Hotel.
