PNG Corrections Officials Declare State Of Emergency For Area Surrounding Buimo Prison

Communities told to be on alert following escape fo 57 prisoners

PORT MORESBY, Papua New Guinea (PNG Post-Courier, May 16, 2017) – Buimo Correctional Services including nearby settlements along the Bumbu River has declared a state of emergency following the breakout of 77 inmates on Sunday (14 May).

According to current updates and reports making headlines the police force and mobile squads have been deployed for a men hunt under the command of Lae Metropolitan Superintendent Antony Wagambie Jr in search of the 57 escapees.

Buimo Area Commander is also calling on the public to be careful and to report to the respective disciplinary authorities if they come across new and suspicious persons within their residential areas.

The two disciplinary heads are also calling on the public not to harbor criminals during the search and men hunt for they will also face the full consequences should anyone be caught harboring fugitives.
