Firefighters Strike Causes Air Tahiti Niu To Cancel Some Flights

Strikers want consistent employment terms between airports

WELLINGTON, New Zealand (Radio New Zealand International, ) – A firefighters strike at French Polynesia's airports has forced the domestic carrier Air Tahiti to cancel some flights.

Flights from Tahiti to several destinations have been cancelled for the day, including to Huahine and the Marquesas.

However, flights to nearby Moorea are assured.

The international carrier Air Tahiti Nui has also been affected and altered the schedule of its Los Angeles and Auckland flights.

The strike was called because depending on the airport, some firefighters are employed by the state and others by a private company.
