Regional Military Legal Workshop Underway In Tonga

Legalities related to deployment in other countries during crises discussed

NUKU‘ALOFA, Tonga (Matangi Tonga, June 13, 2017) – Meeting in Nuku'alofa today, military participants from Fiji, Papua New Guinea, Samoa, Australia, United States, and Tonga’s HMAF are taking part in a three-day military legal workshop, relating to defence forces' deployment to another country in times of crisis.

The training is fully funded and conducted by the New Zealand Defence Forces Military Legal Division and co-hosted by His Majesty’s Armed Forces.

The training covers internal security situations such as  natural disasters responses, military sea/land exercises, maritime security and mobile training teams, visits by military ships/aircrafts, and attachment of trooper or troops to the host country.

The New Zealand Defence team is led by Colonel Lisa Ferris with Lt Col Steve Taylor, Major Rebecca Thornley, and Lt Scott Milttemiss.
