Investigation Into Allegations Of Police Brutality In New Caledonia Launched

Alleged incident was caught on mobile phone video, posted on social media

WELLINGTON, New Zealand (Radio New Zealand International, Aug. 2, 2017) – An investigation has been launched in New Caledonia into alleged police brutality caught on a mobile phone.

The video rapidly spread on social media networks, triggering an internal police probe.

The video shows officers of the anti-crime squad hitting and kicking several young men in a Noumea suburb.

It was reportedly shot during a police operation trying to track down burglars.
