SAIPAN, CNMI (Marianas Variety, Aug. 3, 2017) – Marianas Visitors Authority Managing Director Christopher Concepcion said the newly installed Airport Passport Control machines have reduced the long lines at the Saipan airport.

Concepcion said over 600 travelers use the machines every day.

“The feedback is good. So far, so good. The machines are helping decrease the long lines,” Concepcion said in an interview after his presentation at the Saipan Chamber of Commerce meeting on Wednesday.

Concepcion said the lines are still long, especially for those passengers whose planes arrive one after the other, but he added that they are now seeing some progress in the immigration-processing area.

“The machines are helping, and that’s good for the tourists who use them,” he said.

According to Concepcion, once the Commonwealth Ports Authority moves forward with its master plan to expand the airport, more machines are likely to be installed.

“Guam has only eight [machines], but for the long term, I know CPA is working to expand the airport so we hope that additional machines are also included in their plan.”

MVA purchased four of the machines while Imperial Pacific International purchased three.
