New Zealand, Fijian EEZ Patrols Board 450 Vessels, Issue 80 Infringement Notices

Navies conduct 6-month maritime surveillance and reconnaissance patrol

SUVA, Fiji (Fiji Times, Oct. 6, 2017) – More than 450 vessels have been boarded by a combined team from the New Zealand Defence Force and Fijian government agencies since the start of their joint operation five months ago aboard the Royal New Zealand Navy ship, HMNZS Hawea.

Commanding officer, Lieutenant Brock West, confirmed out of these, about 80 infringements notices had been issued.

HMNZ Hawea is on a six months deployment in Fiji as part of Operation Wasawasa — an integrated maritime surveillance and reconnaissance patrol of the Fijian exclusive economic zone.
