SUVA, Fiji (Fiji Times, December 15, 2016) – The Fiji Meteorological Service (FMS) is anticipating TD04F to gradually intensify and become a category 1 cyclone by late Friday.

The system, which was upgraded to a tropical depression today, was located about 420km Northwest of Nadi or about 350km Northwest of Yasawa-i-Rara at 10am this morning.

Fiji Meteorological Service director Ravind Kumar said on the projected track, the system was anticipated to move Southeast towards Fiji and gradually take a southerly turn to locate West of Yasawa-i-Rara on Saturday and West-South-West of Nadi on Sunday.

"Within the next 24 to 48 hours the major concern is continuing heavy rain, floods, strong and gusty winds associated with the system," he said.

Members of the public have been urged to take necessary precautions.
