TEBURORO TITO TO BE SWORN IN FOR SECOND TERM AS KIRIBATI PRESIDENT

TARAWA, Kiribati (November 29, 1998 - Radio Australia/Timeon Ioane)---The Chief Justice of Kiribati will swear in Teburoro Tito as President Monday for another four years.

Tito was re-elected in a national presidential election held on Friday, following Parliamentary elections which took place in October.

He won by a comfortable majority, receiving more than half of the overall vote, 13,309, and winning 16 of Kiribati's 23 electorates.

Two other candidates stood in the election. Veteran politician Dr. Harry Tong collected 11,658 votes and won in seven electorates, while Amberoti Nikora received just 465 votes.

The re-elected President Tito is expected to name his ministers from among the members of Parliament shortly.
